There is now a new, more convenient way to vulcanize punctured tires. Called the light cure, it works on a very simple concept of plugging the puncture with a sticky rubber based compound that moulds itself to the puncture to provide an airtight seal. While the old process of vulcanizing which uses a cold patch is very reliable, the tire has to be taken out of the rim. This makes the process impossible to do in the field. And when the tire is put back on, it has to be balanced again. With a light cure, it is now possible to plug the flat in the field, and all it takes are two tools, a punch and a cutter. Since the tire isn't taken out of the rim, there isn't a need to balance it anymore. |
