LCD Cleaning Tips

Even the best, high-reolution, top of the line LCD screen’s won’t deliver good picture quality when it’s covered under a thick layer of grime and dust. But swiping it with your shirt sleeve won’t work. LCD’s are very fragile—you can scratch them just by swiping it the wrong way—and they’re expensive, too.

When cleaning your LCD, don’t use any cleansers that contain alcohol or ammonia, which may destroy the screen or cause the surface to turn a weird yellow. Worse, the screen can get brittle, then crack. You’re better off using water, which you can mix with a little vinegar. Or you can apply isopropyl alcohol or petroleum benzene. Then wipe with  very soft cotton cloth—not rags, not paper towels, which can both scratch.
