One of the things that has most drastically changed our day to day lives over the past century often goes unnoticed and unrecognized for its contribution to our modern way of life. I am referring to plastic. Yup, it doesn't seem like such a huge thing but can you even imagine your life without it? So what is plastic really made from? The most common material used to manufacture the plastic we now take for granted is what's called HDPE, or High Density Polyethylene. In order to get the quality HDPE which is used for our plastic devices and instruments, manufacturing plants reprocess HDPE Granules resulting in a high grade material. HDPE granules are a form of HDPE regrind, the product of scrap HDPE after going through a rigid refinement process. So look around you, you're probably using a plastic mouse, keyboard and perhaps a dozen other plastic products on your desk. None of this should be taken for granted. And with this wonderful process of recycling, we can not only improve our lives – we can do so without harming the environment. |
